Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)

The SAB meets monthly to assess all studies that have applied to use the NIHR/Wellcome Trust Manchester CRF (MCRF). The remit of the SAB is to look at the science of the studies. The board is made up of representation from each of the five partner organisations as well as input from MCRF staff. A decision is reached by the SAB as to whether they approve the study. Studies that are not approved are deferred and support is offered by the SAB to make the study stronger and ultimately of a standard that will be approved.

  • Professor Ian Bruce, Reader and Consultant in Rheumatology - Chair of the SAB, and Medical Director of the Facility
  • Professor Munir Pirmohamed, NHS Chair of Pharmacogenetics, University of Liverpool - External advisor to the SAB
  • The rest of the Committee comprises academic representatives from each of the partner organisations; see: terms of reference (39KB)

We are in the process of preparing revisions to the remit and constitution of the committee that will be presented to the Management Committee during the next year of operation. This committee meets monthly to consider the scientific credibility of the project applications to the facility.
